People often complain about their mother-in-law. Mine was wonderful, embracing me as part of the family the first time we met and treating me as a daughter from that moment on! She used to get together with her friends to do nice things for people in her Gregory, South Dakota home. She called this group of intimate friends her 'Coffee Klatch.' While I was painting a series of miniature scenes from my own rural childhood, I thought of the old broken-down corn crib out back in a field and of how the ever present flock of birds would perch there and chatter to one another...kind of like Mom's Coffee friends.
